About

ROOSTAARCHIVE
is not a studio.
It is a practice
of looking.

A photographic archive built from sustained attention — to people, to streets, to the quiet before and after decisive moments.

"The archive is not a collection of images. It is a record of sustained attention — made over years, across cities, in the ordinary moments that most cameras walk past."

The Practice
Editorial

Constructed Narratives

Working with art directors, brands, and publications to build visual stories. Referencing the archive. Making work that persists.

Portrait

The Studied Face

Portraits made with time — not in spite of it. The subject is always in context. Never isolated from the world they inhabit.

Street

The Found Frame

Street photography as archival practice. Singapore and worldwide. The decisive moment, and the one just before it.

Philosophy
I
The photograph is a permanent record. It is not a moment captured. It is evidence that something existed — that light fell a certain way, that a person stood here, that this world looked like this.
II
Restraint is the practice. Not every frame is worth making. The archive grows slowly because the work demands patience — from the photographer, and from the subject.
III
Context is never optional. The subject exists in a world. The world is always in the frame — even when it isn't visible. Backgrounds matter. Edges matter. What is excluded is a decision.
IV
The commission is a collaboration.Commercial work does not mean compromised work. The brief is a starting point. The final image should outlast the campaign it was made for.
V
Film is not nostalgia. The grain, the latitude, the irreversibility — these are not aesthetic choices. They are constraints that produce better decisions. Shooting film is a discipline.

Work begins with a conversation.

Not a brief — the context. Every collaboration starts with understanding who you are, what you're building, and what matters most to you.
